Coach Mark says …

“The right equipment can make a significant difference. A traditional laminate construction with a sidewall will provide a huge benefit to a junior racer starting at 8 years of age verses a softer cap construction. My preference in ski selection is to have more shape then less. This will allow the young short dudes to take a more aggressive line and provide them with the ability to quickly lay it over at the gate. Eventually they will require a GS ski due to the excessive speeds. They should be skiing both GS & SL at 10 years of age to get ready for K1 the following year.”

“On the topic of ski boot selection, it is obvious that the boot be sized correctly both in the foot and especially the calf area. Providing enough growing room is important, but remember, too much space will mean the young athlete won’t be centered on the ski and leave them driving the bus in the back seat. Finally, if the athlete cannot flex their new boot in the warmth of Slalom Gate then they will definitely not be able to flex in the ankle on the hill to the degree they need to carve their skis at high speeds while maintaining the proper position.”

“What separates a good skier from a great skier? Stance & Balance – and the crucial factor is the flexibility of the ski boot!”
